A Dragon’s Tale
To the cavern where dwells the feared dragon goes the brave
knight of lore armed with fabled sword and bottles of elixir in a bag on his
shoulder where valor and honor was stored. He strode through the meadow
carrying a flagon hoping the dragon would grant him accord. With the best Meade
made by the hand of man he entered the mouth of the cave with a plan.
"Hark vile beast might I enter to speak my mind?"
he spoke into the musty foul-smelling reek.
"Enter if you dare." said the dragon in time to an
unknown song. "What is it that you seek?"
"Not more than
your thoughts in words of spoken rhyme!"
"Then come
forward and share the flagon unique Stay your sword as you enter, a worthless
tool, and pray that you aren't playing me for a fool! “
The knight pondered these words of warning thinking to himself:
”Should I say or should I go” This
dragon seems to be a kinder soul than the other I have vanquished; but still…
“Pour the Meade and then state your poetic challenge and if
it does not feel right, I will smash you and no phalanx will stabilize your
balance. Forever you will be various shades of blue!” roared the dragon in his impatience.
“Too kind my good
dragon! Have you a chalice so that I may pour you a cup of my brew?” Inquired
the Knight.
“Find the cups in the first cupboard on the left, be careful
do not stir the bones from their rest.” Stated the dragon in finality.
The Knight passed quietly and the Dragon survived another
